So, I was playing around with this a little bit. I thought – what does n^2 need to be multiplied by to equal 4n. n^2 needs to be multiplied by 4/n. Another way to write 4/n is 2 divided by (n/2). When n is even – the denominator is equal to a whole number, and it is the number which your student develops. It is a great pattern which your student noticed!!
